celebrating women doing their God-given thing

{for the month of may, i’m highlighting a few women who are gaining confidence in who God has created them to be and displaying it so through different means. for some, it was born out of cause. for others, it was there since birth. and some, it’s the season of life they are in. and they are sharing their stories here this month! join me in celebrating them and that’s not all…they want to celebrate you! a giveaway on each blogpost through the month of may! make sure you leave a comment the day or the day following the post, for that’s what enters you in the drawing. winners will be announced on the following post}   {congrats to Aimee Fair, Stacie Wood and Hannah Hinojosa – winners of a sweet Pearl House gift from the previous post}

Mills Family MERCY iNK

Hello friends! My name is Lauren Mills of MERCY iNK. My pastor hubby and I have been married just about nine years and we have three kiddos at home (ages 3, 5, and 7) and are awaiting the homecoming of our fourth, a 2 year old daughter in Central Africa. (If you’d like, you can read more about our adoption journey here.) We live in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.

I am passionate about Jesus, His amazing grace, and His love for the least of these. My heart for my blog is to reflect that grace, advocate for those without a voice, and encourage other believers to step bravely into His awesome work of loving others.

In addition to the blog, MERCY iNK is also an online scripture print and jewelry shop. I design graphic prints for homes, and truth-filled jewelry for women to wear around their hearts. It is a crazy blessing to create art that brings the Word to people. I love what I do!

As a social worker turned business owner, I’m always thinking about ways to empower and bless others through my work. I have big dreams on what this might look like down the road, but for now, MERCY iNK highlights one cause each month and contributes a portion of all sales to their work. For the month of May, I’m so glad to be partnering with a local ministry, New Creation, to support their recent takeover of a condemned porn shop in our city. They won the building at auction and are now in the process of transforming what was once used for evil for good: the building will be used as a coffee shop and boutique of items made by local and global sex trafficking survivors. It is a true redemption story in so many ways!

Being a little part of God’s much bigger stories makes what I do so beautiful and life giving. It’s so much more than a piece of jewelry or a print for your wall: it is about speaking life, advocating for the forgotten, and sowing into ministries at work in our town and around the world.

  2. We just brought home our youngest son with Down Syndrome from Ethiopia! God’s goodness was laced throughout our journey!

  3. for years, my husband and i gave to Compassion International in various ways…unsponsored children fund, general medical coverage, etc. one year ago, we decided to sponsor a child, and, although communication is more limited from a three-year-old than say a ten-year-old, we are so humbled by and grateful to make a difference in his little life.

  4. We just got our adoption hearing date this morning! What a way to wake up! We have been fostering to adopt, got him on day 3 and he just turned 1 in April. It’s set for June 27th. We are praying about adopting internationally next.

  5. My little family and I don’t have an earth-shattering story to tell, but we are humbled to be a small part of a community of Jesus lovers who desire desperately to make His name known here and to the ends of the earth. Our people are bringing home orphans, partnering with countries who need water, schools, and hope, and planting churches in cities far from home–we are grateful to stand by their sides sharing meals, doing life, and using our hands to help them until it’s our turn. I’m thankful for the “quiet love” that C.S. Lewis writes of as we wait expectantly for where He would lead us next.

  6. Oh how I love this! My biggest endeavor right now is the launch of a new service oriented linkup called Make A Difference Mondays I am co-hosting through my blog, She Lives Free : ) Thank you for this giveaway opportunity!
