A note to the San Francisco Police Dept.
To whom it may concern,
I met one of yours today. Not in the way I typically see you out and about. I’m used to seeing you patrolling the Tenderloin or handing out stickers to kids in Noe Valley. I see you patiently wait for those who have slept at storefronts in the Castro to gather their things. I see you coming out of Philz Coffee. I hear you zip down our busy street in a chase or a hurry. We’ve had a few conversations outside our home for a number of reasons including burglaries and unusual characters. I know you’re a very busy people. But I met one that got away. I met her in Nazareth, Israel.
You don’t know a thing about me, for I am one of many that you serve, but I’m a conversation starter. She had on a gray Berkeley hoodie and was by the potter’s wheel. I couldn’t resist. I asked if she was from the Bay Area. She said San Francisco to be exact. Well, isn’t that a coincidence! We shared our neighborhoods and she proudly shared she works with you!
This beautiful woman beams with the love of Christ as she told me what a gift it was to be standing in Nazareth, home of our Savior. I hope I reflect the light she displayed as I return to San Francisco, ever grateful that this woman serves our city.
Just so you’re aware, it is very much like our God to bring me to Nazareth to introduce me to one of yours. For this very town rejected Jesus, but didn’t stop His mission and calling. Our city might not be the brightest, but I’m honored that one of His lights shines as she patrols and protects.
Sincerely,
a fellow citizen
