why pray now?
because we are doing one or the other:
We’re either spiraling in our own thoughts and fears and uncertainties or we’re trusting a Power outside of us that is bigger than any problem, pandemic, or pain.
Our God is very mindful of you. He isn’t turning to other options because of this pandemic. Our God is not limited, on furlough, or tapping into His reserves. Let this be a fresh reminder for us all today,
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1-2)
I’d like to suggest you go on a prayer walk. It’s not that you can’t pray at the kitchen table or say your bedtime prayers. The reason we walk and pray is to connect to God as we see what’s around us. You and I pray differently over our culture because we live among it. This is part of God’s reason for you being where you are.
In this brutal COVID season, God is bringing forth life amidst death. I believe God wants to use our time at home to prayer walk. As we pray and walk, we talk to God about what we think He’s doing or what’s going on around us.
I promise you that New Yorkers are praying honestly. Those in China are praying specifically for their people. Italian believers are talking with God about their land. Just think about what’s going on in your state, country, and community. Based on what you hear and read, it will direct your prayers and pleas to God.
Make notice of what is still thriving around you. The crashing waves. The lapping brooks and streams. The pollen collecting around us! The chirping birds. Vegetables. Hydrangeas. Jasmine. Oh the jasmine!
We walk because it gets us outside and outside of ourselves. We pray for what we see and what’s around us.
If this concept is new or you have questions, I have complied a Spotify playlist for you to take with you on your first walk. start here:
If you’re comfortable going on a prayer walk, but welcome the company, I’m here with you:
If you’re looking for what you cannot see, this is your walk!
If you’ve given up on God,
if you’ve full of doubt right now,
if you can’t see light at the end of the tunnel,
Step outside.
If you’re frustrated at the weight gain or the lethargy,
if you have raised your voice to those in your house,
if your mind has gone to some dark places,
Take a deep breath.
If you’ve got air in your lungs,
If you can count just one blessing,
If you know someone who loves you,
Walk.
Because you didn’t get the blessings you have on your own.
Because God has given you life and breath.
Because He has made this day that you are standing in.
Pray.
Tell God thanks.
(for your blessings and His kindness and His faithfulness)
Tell God I’m sorry.
(for actions done wrong to others and to Him)
Tell God please.
(for your needs and needs of others)
(written this week from my own personal struggles)
