The best thing that can happen when you move to a new place is that everything is fresh and vibrant and eye-catching. It’s all new, as it should be. For the rest of us, life takes on routine and we have come to expect things to be as they should be and work a certain way.

Christ has called His followers to be alert. To pay attention. To be on guard and on watch. To live sent.

“As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” John 20:21

God is roaming this earth looking for those who’s hearts are fully committed to Him. (2 Chronicles 16:9) That’s who He wants to use. That’s who He needs standing in the gap. (Ezekiel 22:30) Let’s be about putting feet to our faith, action to our aching, intercession to our intuition.

Now is the time to make our voices heard to God. Jesus knows this season better than anyone. He stepped into a world with high tensions, political unrest, scarce finances, low trust, and expectations for the coming Messiah dwindling. Yet, Jesus chose to live among us, to learn our names and stories, and to start conversations about what was heavy on our minds.

Let’s go and pray over 10 places in our towns and cities! Our communities need people who care for all of us. Being on site affords you vision of what to bring before God. It helps us see, feel, experience, be active, be present. We can stand silently at these places and offer prayers of praise, intercession, thanksgiving, and confession.

Where to pray:

  1. Home (family)

  2. Church (Jesus)

  3. City hall (community)

  4. Police station (safety)

  5. School (learning)

  6. Hospital (healing)

  7. Neighborhood/street (unity)

  8. Neglected areas (needs met)

  9. Businesses (commerce)

  10. City limit signs/boundaries/bridges (what comes in and out of town; what brings people in and out)

This printable packet includes:

  • 10 Places to Pray with prayer prompts

  • Sample notes to leave behind

  • Suggested social media quotes

  • Sample letter to the editor or mayor

How to do it:

Here are some suggested ways to cover your city/town in prayer:

  • Leave a message with sidewalk chalk or a handwritten note: “You have been prayed for today.”

  • Share your plan with friends and small group and have them meet you at these places.

  • Make this a field trip for your family. Every week you go and prayer walk around one of these.

Get creative! I see you taking your church staff to pray around these places. I see this as a prayer small group for this fall. I see you getting in your car and parking it in front and voicing your prayers from the car. I see your town’s future looking different because you chose to stand in the gap, go and pray.

How the Pilgreen’s are going to do it: We’re going to calendar every place and make it an outing. If there is one in walking distance, we will walk there and pray. Regardless, we’re getting our calendars out and making this a priority. We plan to do this all before November 3. Join us in praying before we vote.

Don’t forget to download the prayer guide that is really a prayer kit!

For Love Where You Live Day, Tuesday, September 22, plan out these 10 Places to Pray.

For October 22, Thursday, mark your calendars! We’re going to go on a Global Neighborhood Prayer Walk. #globalneighborhoodprayerwalk on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. All this will be done around your neighborhood and shared on social media. Let’s encourage the world through prayer. Let’s post our stories of why we are praying. Let our communities know we care deeply. Details posted at shaunapilgreen.com on October 15. Make sure you are a subscriber so you don’t miss out. All I send is the good stuff in life anyways!
