when it’s been a while
Monastry in Dubrovnik, Croatia (summer 2025)
knock. knock.
anyone here?
oh hi there.
it’s me, shauna.
i know it’s been a while.
i’m sorry i let so much time pass.
i can tell you i’ve been busy and gone
and so much going on.
what about you?
how have you been?
what have you given your time to?
the truth is —
i didn’t know how to come back to this space
and what to write
or if anyone would be around.
i’ve imagined opening up the attic door
at the top of the stairs
obnoxious creaking sound
cold and damp.
the few rays of sun
spotlight the dust.
blowing towards it will do.
now then — let’s catch up —
you go first
i imagine you’ve got stories to tell me
(send in a comment or email my way)
i want to acknowledge God’s faithfulness
and presence in your life.
i thank our Father for His incredible love
He pours out on you.
thank You Jesus, for your death on the cross,
your resurrection from the grave,
your invitation to walk with You.
Holy Spirit — I pray You will guide my friends
by giving them wisdom,
giving them Yourself,
and pouring our Your love on them.
thank You Father.
thank you.
i’m wondering if we don’t need more coffee,
vitamins, vacation or self-care.
but i do think we need to be receiving all 4 of these!
we need more story time.
so i have some stories i want to share and dare i say —
some poems i’ve written and stored up lately.
i’ve not found social media as the place to house these.
what i’ve found is a community here who holds sacred
what is real and raw and true and good.
— i can’t make any promises when i’ll knock again,
but it’s warmed by heart and made me grateful to be back.
