a touch of pearl {celebrating women in may}
celebrating women doing their God-given thing
{for the month of may, i'm highlighting a few women who are gaining confidence in who God has created them to be and displaying it so through different means. for some, it was born out of cause. for others, it was there since birth. and some, it's the season of life they are in. and they are sharing their stories here this month! join me in celebrating them and that's not all...they want to celebrate you! a giveaway on each blogpost through the month of may! make sure you leave a comment the day or the day following the post, for that's what enters you in the drawing. winners will be announced on the following post} {congrats to rachel lundy, winner of the ugandan scarf from previous post}
help me celebrate a mom from oklahoma and her 22 daughters
Ete-sen! (hello!) my name is Courtney Bullard and I currently reside in Jenks, Oklahoma with my husband Steve of 11 years. We have 22 daughters! I had two the ole’ fashion way and the other 20 live in Ghana at The Pearl House. I feel that one day I will look back and think, wow, those were the best times of my life! I love watching my daughters grow and be extraordinary on a daily basis. I love when my husband and I dream together! And I love having a heart to heart conversation with dear friends (perferrably over a cup of Starbucks’ no water Chai Tea Latte). I am so thankful.
People ask, “Why did you start a home in Africa for girls you had never met?” And my answer is simply, “I just love Jesus that much.” You see, Jesus is my everything and even before He ask something of me my answer is yes. Why? Because walking in obedience with The One who made you, formed you, knows you better than you know yourself, and loves you despite all of your flaws - it is the greatest relationship anyone could have.
The Pearl House. It is hard work. Satan does not like the fact that we are helping God’s daughters and changing the nation of Ghana one Pearl at a time. There are many distractions, frustrations, obstacles, and voices that try to keep us from carrying out the assignment God has given. I am continually learning that one cannot trust what one sees, but one has to have faith and believe in what one cannot see. I cannot lean on my own understanding.
The Pearl House
is blessed with 20 precious Pearls who have come from extremely high at-risk situations, but now they are thriving! The Pearls attend a private school and are doing tremendously well! In fact, we have had to purchase new school uniforms for each Pearl (twice) since they are finally receiving proper nutrition. Each Pearl can now speak English and write. They are beginning to create and think for themselves. We want these precious Pearls to know they are loved by Jesus. That He loves them, He sees them, and He is always for them! We pray that we will add more Pearls this year and that in the near future we will have a string of Pearl Houses across all of Africa reaching into other countries as well! The Pearl House is giving hope a home.
Our new line, A Touch of Pearl, just launched this week! Each piece represents what we are accomplishing at The Pearl House. (all proceeds go toward The Pearl House)
