But thanks be to God, who always puts us on display in Christ, and spreads through us in every place the scent of knowing Him.
[2 Corinthians 2.14]

Many of our family and friends have seen this video posted on YouTube already. I wanted to document this special occasion on our blog and share it with you if you haven't seen it yet.

The beauty of our church start is we have to improvise in many scenarios; one being baptism celebrations. It was a moment I will never forget as 100 people from the Epic community gathered at Ben and Lindsey's apartment pool to witness our church's first baptism. 3 young ladies made their faith public as they were baptized before their parents, family, and friends. I loved that as we applauded, by-standers joined in the clapping. I love that we surrounded a pool and gave our undivided attention to those around us and those being baptized. I love that God gave us the most sunny day for the occasion. I love that we get to improvise; that we get to think unconventionally. I love that our church community responds with enthusiasm.

It wasn't just an evening for baptism, but of fellowship. With the help of our small groups, Uche, one of our volunteers, organized the food, cooking, and greeting. She exemplified a servant on so many levels. She complimented each person that was helping her out.
As a mom, I was fulfilled to see the kids form community outside of their usual interaction at church. I took a minute to look around the tables, to look at those gathered at the grill and those soaking in the last bit of sun at the pool. Everyone engaged in conversation. Laughter. Learning new names. Asian. African. Preschooler. Art student. Single mom. Aging parents. A clump of girls exchanging phone numbers and email addresses as they discover community together for the first time. Parents chatting with other parents - with one eye on the kids. Young professionals already making the next weekend plans together.

What a display. What an unforgettable scent.
