Practicing Silence
Friend,
Do we sit with God to hear how He thinks about us or are we on a mission to get it elsewhere? Here’s a test. Practice silence in His presence today. I am going to do it right now as I pause in this writing. (5 minutes) I opened my hands to receive what God might say to me through His Spirit. It’s a practice I’ve been doing for a while. It’s a posture that says, I want You, God. I need You.
Very quickly I experienced a warm/cold in my palms. Both of them. I sensed God reminding me that it is He who has made me a writer. And not just a writer, but a doer. I love doing things with God. He designed my life so that we do things together and when we do things together, He helps me recognize when to stop and when to listen and when to act and when to slow down. Together. He emphasized that word while I sat in His presence. Songs often come to my mind when I sit quietly in His presence. The first lyrics: I am chosen, not forsaken, I am who You say I am. And then lastly, All to Jesus I surrender. All to Him I freely give.
I didn’t expect this today. But I stepped into it and I’m glad I did. I pray you experience His presence as He meets with you as you give Him time today.
Practicing silence, even for 5 minutes,
Shauna
