On Your Way to Someone
On Your Way to Someone
You’re very familiar with being on your way to somewhere. This happens multiple times every day. You’re on your way to take the kids to practice. You’re own your way to a work meeting at the coffee shop down the street. You’re on your way to the nail salon. You’re on your way to what you hope will be an amazing vacation. But here’s something even more important than the places you’re going:
You are on your way to becoming someone.
This is the most important journey of your entire life. You are already on a path to who you will become, for better or worse. There’s a current trajectory for your life. Do you like where it’s leading?
If you know anything about me, you know I’m passionate about helping people accomplish significant things in their lives. It’s true; I believe my calling is to help humans bring out all that’s been placed inside of them - for the good of the world! But we can’t bring good out of us if there isn’t good inside of us. Here are a few things you can prioritize if you want to care more about who you become than even all the things you want to do.
Prioritize your character trajectory more than your career trajectory.
We all spend time imagining where our careers are headed, but when’s the last time you reflected on where your character is headed? Celebrate the areas where you have grown and identify the areas where you still need to grow so that you might become who you long to be. Do you need to be more patient, more gentle, more loving? Do you need to be less angry, less judgmental, or less deceitful?
Prioritize giving attention to the things in your life no one else sees.
In this cultural moment, we all feel tempted to make sure everyone sees the best version of ourselves. But if we only concentrate on our appearance, we won’t give the needed attention to the actual substance of our lives. What are you giving your attention to when no one is watching? Whatever it is - it has huge implications for the person you’re becoming.
Prioritize habits and practices that put you on the path to becoming the man or woman you long to be.
What do you need to engage in to become more of the person you want to be? And what do you need to start abstaining from, knowing it’s not leading you where you want to go. We are all being formed in one way or another. Give more attention to the practices that help you on your “becoming” journey and less or even no attention to the ones that take you away from who you want to be.
Part of why I’ve written Bring It Out is because I care deeply about who you become. This book is filled with principles that are going to give you pathways for your own formation. I’d love for you to preorder a copy for yourself and a few friends.
On My Way to Someone,
Ben
Honored to have my pastor husband, Ben, share with us here. One of the best choices you can make today is to get a copy of his new book. It’s extremely practical. Easy to read. Highly motivating - you’ll believe you can do anything just a few pages in! While you’re at it, go ahead and order a few copies so you are ready to bless your neighbor, co-worker, and friend when God prompts your heart to serve them!
