diwali {in pics}

  photo

"The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them." Isaiah 9.2

the lights have been lit for the past few nights as we think of the Hope and Light of the world.

thinking of k, we celebrated like we thought she might be celebrating. yes, even in an orphanage.

the lights. the sweets. the foods.

 and we made peda, a favorite diwali sweet.

i was honored to be invited to a diwali party on sunday afternoon that some friends were having.

the ladies, with their beautiful bindis and colorful kurtas, they welcomed me in.

the smells of curry filled the room.

the incense on the altar as well.

i wished the hosts a happy diwali and gifted them with a card and some homemade peda.

they introduced me to friends in the city who speak our daughter's language.

our family is blessed to learn of a culture so rich and generous and hospitable.

happy diwali.

and next year, may we be celebrating this all with our little indian girl!
