Thoughts while Sitting By The Bay
Sitting by the bay this morning with coffee mug in hand, I looked up to the sky and spotted plane after plane taking off further towards the west. I looked to the right and saw hills full of homes glued together. I looked to the left and saw the sun's rays shining up through the east. I looked down below and saw ripples of water caused by fish in the bay.
Then I took notice of what was all around me still in the quietness of the morning. Quiet to me, you see. For the sounds of planes and trains and cars going by have become background noise.
I noticed people. I really took notice this morning.
I've always considered the sunrise on the beach as one of the greatest views of nature. Or the smell of pine and evergreen in the midst of the mountains. I love to be startled by a shooting star and wowed with wonder at the movement of a storm.
But this morning, I noticed people. I caught myself in contradiction as I often don't consider people a part of creation. The man walking his dog. The woman in scrubs. The businessman with his briefcase. The older woman doing tai-chi. Though I'm in a city and am surrounded by lots of man-made stuff, creation is living and breathing all around me in the form of people.

People are creation at His finest. The Author of our lives says so in Psalm 8:4-6:
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet.
People are the only work of creation that has eternity in their being. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:11:
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
Though I long to see another sunrise at the beach and take in the smell of pine in the mountains, I want to be more wowed at the Creator of humankind and want to care far more deeply for His greatest creation - the people all around me.
My short time was up at the bay. I had a little creation to wake up for school.
